The Course

Listening and attending are essential skills for children, but they are not automatic— they must be learned. Building on previous learning about regulation and engagement, we now explore how children develop the ability to focus, process information, and respond to others.

Listening is more than just hearing; it requires attention and understanding. Attending is about actively focusing on what’s important. These skills help children connect, communicate, and participate in daily interactions. In this course, we will explore why some children find listening and attending challenging and provide practical strategies to support their development in a way that respects their unique learning style. By fostering connection first, we create the foundation for meaningful communication.

What you will learn

When putting together this course, I delved deep into the latest research and best practices in child development to design an experience that's both enlightening and practical for you as a parent or caregiver. Supporting your child’s listening and attending is about more than just getting them to follow instructions—it’s about creating connection, understanding their unique needs, and providing the right support.

You will explore how regulation, environment, sensory needs, and engagement all contribute to helping your child develop these skills. By using practical strategies, being flexible in communication, and prioritizing connection over compliance, you can foster meaningful listening and attention in a way that works for your child. Small, consistent changes make a big difference!
